The Western Conference playoff race is heating up and there's still over a month to figure out who will make the final eight that make up the postseason bracket. However, Paul Pierce isn't interested in waiting around for the action to be settled on the court and instead makes his case on why he thinks the San Antonio Spurs and LA Clippers will make the playoffs.

Entering play Tuesday, the Clippers hold the seventh seed while the Spurs own the eighth and final playoff spot. Paul Pierce isn't exactly going out on a limb by saying that the clubs will hang onto their spots, even if both have 20 games remaining.

For as much as Pierce makes the point for San Antonio and LA, he is also making the case as to why the Sacramento Kings, Minnesota Timberwolves and the Los Angeles Lakers won't make the playoffs.

All three of those clubs have work to do if they're to overtake either the Spurs or Clippers, although the Timberwolves and Lakers are just three games back of San Antonio while the Kings remain a game out of the picture.

While even the No. 1 seed in the West is anything but locked down, it's highly likely that the No. 7 or 8 seed will draw the Golden State Warriors in the first round. That represents a daunting task for any club, especially one coming off a late-season battle just to reach the playoffs. But if Pierce is right, it'll either be the Spurs or Clippers drawing that early round duty.
