For Boston Celtics point guard Terry Rozier, the third-year player out of the University of Louisville signed a shoe deal with Adidas back in 2016 that would guarantee him roughly $300,000 over three seasons. However, according to an article written today by Jon Wertheim of Sports Illustrated, Rozier apparently slipped up ever so slightly and Adidas terminated his contract.

Wertheim wrote an article on Tuesday about Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Derrick Rose and why he's still being paid so much money by Adidas. Given how lenient the shoe giant has been with Rose, it was surprising that they let go of Rozier so easily for simply once wearing a pair of Nikes during practice during the 2017 Eastern Conference Finals.

“Adidas’s treatment of Rose is especially perplexing given how closely the company has held other players to the letter of their contracts. On Jan. 18, 2016, Celtics guard Terry Rozier signed a deal that, according to documents provided to SI, guaranteed him $300,000 over three seasons,” Wertheim wrote. “During the 2017 Eastern Conference finals, Rozier wore Nikes during a pregame shootaround. He changed into Adidas shoes for the game, but his public appearance in a rival brand did not escape notice. In a letter delivered by FedEx last May 26, Adidas’s legal counsel Monique Hawthorne notified Rozier, ‘Adidas is terminating your Agreement effective immediately.'”

In the 2017-2018 season, Rozier has been spotted wearing Nikes during practice and games. That must be quite frustrating for Rozier, as it seems he lost a good chunk of money and plenty of free shoes from Adidas in the process.

However, as of late, Rozier continues to play well in a starting role for the Celtics with the absence of both star point guard Kyrie Irving and Marcus Smart. In three starts, Rozier is averaging 19.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game in 35.0 minutes of action per contest.
