The Charlotte Hornets have provided what appears to be a positive update on the status of Gordon Hayward, who was forced to exit Wednesday's tilt against the Dallas Mavericks due to a hip injury.

According to Hornets head coach James Borrego, Hayward seems to have dodged a major injury here:

Hayward managed just 27 minutes in Charlotte's 104-93 loss to the Mavs, with the former All-Star leaving the game in the third quarter due to a hip strain. As it turns out, however, it is nothing more than a minor tweak, and that the 30-year-old might not actually miss time because of this injury.

Then again, this is Gordon Hayward we are talking about here. His list of injuries over the past couple of years have been well-documented, so it isn't surprising that Hornets supporters hold their breath whenever the 6-foot-7 small forward hits the deck. Based on initial reports, though, it seems that Hayward and the Hornets have dodged a bullet here.

Charlotte is in the midst of a back-to-back set, and are slated to face off against the Toronto Raptors on Thursday. As coach Borrego said in his statement above, Hayward is expected to join the team when they travel to Tampa to face the Raptors in their U.S.-based home court.

Hayward, who has had a tremendous start to his Hornets career, finished Wednesday's loss with 16 points on 5-of-15 shooting, to go along with three triples, four rebounds, an assist, a block, and zero turnovers.
