Luka Doncic will officially bring his talents from Europe to the city of Dallas. According to Bobby Karalla of Mavs.com, Doncic has finally put pen on paper to secure his place on the Mavs’ roster beginning next season.

The Dallas Mavericks announced today that they have signed the third overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, Luka Doncic (LOO-kuh DON-chitch). Dallas acquired the draft rights to Doncic from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for the draft rights to fifth overall pick Trae Young and a protected 2019 first round draft pick.

The contract is reportedly going to earn Doncic $5.5 million next season according to a separate report from the Associated Press.

The Mavericks are hoping that the arrival of Doncic in Dallas, along with the signing of DeAndre Jordan this summer, will spell a quick rebound for the franchise, which has missed the playoffs in each of the last two seasons.

Although just a 19-year-old rookie, Doncic comes with a bag full of accolades. While most of his batchmates in this year’s draft played with and against college players prior to getting selected by NBA teams, Doncic was in Europe polishing his craft against grown men in the EuroLeague, where he is the reigning Most Valuable Player. He was also named the league’s Final Four MVP, thanks in large part to the role he played in leading Real Madrid to a championship in the 2017-18 EuroLeague season.

Unfortunately for Mavs fans, they may have to wait a little longer before they could catch a glimpse of Luka Doncic competing in a Dallas uniform, as he’s not expected to play in any of the Mavericks’ remaining games in the Summer League.
