Dallas Mavericks rookie Luka Doncic has two lofty goals for the upcoming season.

The third overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, Doncic told reporters at Mavericks media day Friday he wants to make the playoffs, and win Rookie of the Year.

There's a lot of hype surrounding Luka Doncic. He was the Most Valuable Player last season in the EuroLeague and the MVP of the EuroLeague Final Four. However, Doncic did not play in the Las Vegas Summer League, as the Mavericks didn’t want to overwork him in the wake of a long EuroLeague season.

As a result, some pundits are anxious to see how the 19-year-old will fare against NBA competition. Doncic averaged 14.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game in the EuroLeague.

Online sportsbook Bovada has Doncic as the favorite to win Rookie of the Year. Doncic will start at the power forward position for Dallas, and has a chance to put up sound stats considering he's playing for one of the smartest coaches in the game in Rick Carlisle.

Doncic trained with Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry in August. The Mavericks are hoping Doncic learned some tips from Curry and can be a lethal shooter from beyond the arc. One area Doncic might struggle in during his rookie season will be on the defensive end, as he doesn't have the upper body strength or foot speed to compete with NBA forwards.

It's going to be tough for Doncic and the Mavericks to make the playoffs in the rugged Western Conference this season. But you have to appreciate the confidence Doncic has. If he's able to lead Dallas to the postseason, there's a strong chance Luka Doncic could run away with the Rookie of the Year award.
