Kevin Durant joining the Golden State Warriors was the cause of much controversy during the past calendar year, dealing with arduous criticism from the fans and the media, some claiming that he hopped into the bandwagon to finally get a shot at his first NBA title.

The 10-year veteran has heard every comment thrown his way, whether voluntarily or involuntarily, plowing through the season with the best record in the league and making his presence felt that much more at the biggest of stages.

“I hear all the narratives…that I was hopping on bandwagons,” said Durant in his post-ceremony press conference, according to the team's Fast Break blog. “That was far from the truth.”

As it turned out, Durant didn't hop into, but rather pulled the wagon, earning Finals MVP honors after averaging 35.2 points on 55.6 percent shooting from the field, 47.4 percent from deep and a crisp 92.7 percent from the stripe, along with 8.4 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 1.6 blocks, and 1.0 steals through five games in the NBA Finals.

While trying to fit into a star-studded team at the start of the season, Durant did what was expected of him when it counted the most, taking over and asserting his dominance in the game. His transformation wasn't any more evident than in Game 5, as he shot a dominant 70 percent from the field en route to a team-high 39 points to lead the Warriors to a 129-120 title-clinching win.

Winning is the cure to every narrative malady, as it's hard to scrap the title of NBA champion from the record books, no matter what the story beyond it is.

Stories flutter away with time, success is etched in eternity.
