Not even machines can compute how good the Golden State Warriors are going to be next season.
In a recent Sports Illustrated feature by Lee Jenkins, he included this nugget regarding the new-look Warriors:
Article Continues Below“One NBA front office ran simulations, based on player values, for the upcoming season. Cleveland came out with 64 wins, second best in the league. Golden State came out with 83, better than undefeated. They broke the system.”
Wait, what?
That's pretty incredible. You'd think the machine would understand that there are only 82 games in a season. But maybe that's just how good the Warriors are. Add Kevin Durant to a 73-win team and now you've got a more than perfect basketball goliath.
Most likely, the machine is projecting how many wins each player is worth and not taking into account the regression in that metric that will come with KD playing with his new teammates. Either way, it's pretty stunning.
That machine is due for a few tweaks, but seriously, is this what we're going to be dealing with next season? The Warriors are literally never going to lose? The rest of the league is in big trouble.
