There are some who didn’t expect Stephen Curry’s season to be as great as it was. And yet, even with all the challenges this year, the All-Star almost managed to drag the Golden State Warriors back to the playoffs.

But even with all of Curry’s impressive talent and drive, the Dubs fell short in the play-in tournament when the Memphis Grizzlies clinched the eighth seed in the Western Conference. We take a look down below why now is the best time to load up on Stephen Curry cards after having an MVP-worthy season.

Stephen Curry and The Warriors’ Almost-Cinderella Run To The Playoffs

For a 32-year-old point guard in the NBA, Curry isn’t doing too bad at all. While a lot of fans and critics were skeptical of him and the Warriors, their season went a lot better than expected.

Even with the absence of Klay Thompson and the disappointing performance of James Wiseman, their top rookie in this year’s draft class, Golden State still showed a lot of heart and put a great amount of fear into their opponents. With Curry as their primary engine, the Warriors defied all odds that placed them at the bottom of the league when the season started.

Curry’s numbers this year were phenomenal, to say the least, The 12-year veteran led the league in scoring by averaging 32.0 points, along with 5.5 rebounds, 5.8 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. His 8.1 Offensive Box Plus/Minus score ranked second in the NBA, just behind Nikola Jokic’s 9.2. Curry’s 56.9% success rate from two, 42.1% from 3, and 91.6% from the free-throw line make him one of the most efficient players in the NBA.

All of these numbers went berserk during the tail end of Curry’s season. In his last 22 games, the Splash Brother averaged 37.1 points on 49% shooting from the field and 43% from deep. Thanks to his stellar showing, Curry entered the MVP conversation as one of the top three players in the league and the Warriors obtained an opportunity to enter the playoffs via the play-in tournament.

Ultimately, the Dubs would fall short. Nevertheless, there is no denying that Curry has proven all of his doubters wrong by putting up an amazing show all season long. Basketball fans, especially card collectors, can expect the point guard to return in 2021-22 to lead the Warriors back to the top once again.

The State Of Stephen Curry Cards

Even with all of Golden State’s shortcomings this season, Curry is still a prime investment option for card collectors. Now that his team is out of the playoff race, there’s no better time to load up on his stock than now.

Take Curry’s PSA 10 Topps Rookie Card, for instance. In March, prices for this slab went up to as high as $16,900 and settled down to $13,000 a month later. That figure dropped further to $10,000 when the Warriors were eliminated from the playoffs.

Another popular Stephen Curry card, his PSA 10 first-year 2012 Prizm, is also showing signs of a downtrend. A day before their loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, this card was valued at $650. Now, it’s at $485.

With the offseason lurking around the corner, the prices of basketball cards are expected to momentarily go down. Collectors can capitalize on Curry’s stock during this time to help them purchase these cards at a discounted price. With the point guard still in the thick of his prime, there’s a good chance his cards will rise back up sometime next year. When this happens, you won’t regret investing your money on Curry now.
