Gotham Chopra, the co-creator of Stephen Curry's Facebook series “Stephen vs. The Game,” said the Golden State Warriors star is “relishing” this new underdog role in the wake of turning over a new leaf upon Kevin Durant's departure.
KD's exit and the injury to Klay Thompson, which could sideline him for half the season, has cycled the Warriors back to five years ago, when they were the underdog the NBA cheered for as they took the league by storm with the best overall record and an eventual title win:
“I think the thing that's kind of revealing that you find out is he's really relishing this new role that the team has as an underdog,” Chopra said Monday in an exclusive interview with NBC Sports Bay Area. “It's something that Steph is very comfortable with. He said it was really strange for him to be in that Goliath role the past five years where everyone looked at them as sort of the super power.
“He's more comfortable in that underdog role.”
The Warriors have made wholesale changes to their roster, including the addition of another All-Star in D'Angelo Russell, who many have doubted as a fit due to his point guard role with the Brooklyn Nets.

Curry, however, is relishing that doubt, hoping to prove those critics wrong and tackle this upcoming season with the same optimism that made him a first-time MVP in 2014-15:
“I think the fact that now people are saying the dynasty is over and they're sort of casting aside the Warriors as too injured, too fragile, too whatever … it's something that he's really relishing and you get that sense. He doesn't sit there and worry about the losses for very long.
“He's a competitor and I think he's looking forward to next season.”
Russell recently posted a picture to his Instagram in which he's posing alongside Curry, a sign the two have already started to put in the work to facilitate their backcourt chemistry.
