Stephen Curry is making his case for his a long-awaited Finals MVP award, taking charge through the first two games by burying an NBA-Finals-high 14 3-pointers through the first two games of the series.

“It looks like he's lining himself up for something great if we continue to win,” Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green said, according to ESPN' Ramona Shelburne.

The sample-size is small, but Curry has been the main spark plug that has made this offense take off during the regular season and the postseason — making it only fitting that he warrants the award, should the Warriors come out victorious.

According to ESPN Stats & Information tracking (via Shelburne), Curry currently:

  • Has scored or assisted on more points in transition (35) than the Cleveland Cavaliers have scored as a team (33) in the first two games.
  • Is hitting 45 percent on his 3-pointers after shooting 38.5 percent, 40 percent and 38.8 percent each of the past three years.
  • Is averaging 31 points after averaging 26.0 in 2015, 22.6 in 2016 and 26.8 in 2017.

If he can continue this hot streak over the next few games, it's almost a sure shot to say that Curry has put the best aspects of his game together for this opportunity.

Curry railed an NBA-record nine 3-pointers against the Cavs on Sunday, getting the crowd on its feet with his seventh, taking Kevin Love off the dribble and burying a fadeaway jumper from 28 feet that only tickled twine.

“I've seen him make so many crazy shots,” said Warriors assistant Bruce Fraser, who's worked with Curry on a daily basis on his various shooting drills.

“The first 10 you're like, ‘That was lucky.' But when he was shooting that ball [over Love, as the shot clock expired], I thought there was a chance. I saw it leaving his hands and thought it was going in. Was it lucky? Yes. But was it really? How many people that know him were saying, ‘That's missing?' I wasn't.”

Unless the Cavs can find a way to turn the faucet off, Curry is penned up for a much-awaited Finals MVP award if he provide just a few more moments of magic and a couple of wins en route to a third championship in the last four years.
