The Golden State Warriors seemingly watched their dynasty come to an end this summer. After the Dubs were defeated by the Toronto Raptors in the NBA Finals, the organization prepared for a 2019-20 season without Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson, who suffered an ACL injury during the Finals.
However, the Warriors are determined to remain among the elite teams in the league.
Stephen Curry and Draymond Green have been especially vocal in stating that opposing teams in the West will not want to play Golden State come April. Newcomer D'Angelo Russell said he and Curry can be one of the best backcourt duos in the league.
This same confidence extends to the front office. Warriors president Rick Welts told Uche Amako of Express (UK) that the team prefers being labeled as underdogs:
“We like the fact that the whole world doesn’t just assume the Warriors are going to win the championship. That kind of media scrutiny has taken a toll over the last five years on the organisation because of the non-stop coverage of everything to do with the Warriors by such a much larger media contingent than we have ever had before.
“Now we are more considered underdogs again which I think we are more comfortable with. That’s kind of the personalities on our team are suited to that role than the runaway favourites.
“I think there is a quiet confidence that before this is over this year the Warriors can be a factor in how it all turns out.”
The Warriors will miss Thompson, especially on the defensive end.

However, opposing GMs think Curry is about to go nuclear this season, and this might be as motivated as both Curry and Green have been in their entire careers.
If Golden State can establish chemistry on the defensive end and get contributions in the frontcourt, then they figure to be competitive in the West.
