Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry recently penned an article for The Players' Tribune. One of the subjects he tackled in the lengthy writeup was his time in college.

According to the two-time MVP winner, he believes that his academics took precedence to his basketball during his time in Davidson. Curry explained in the article exactly why he believes this to be true.

But back when I got there, what I mostly remember is just how loud and clear we all got the message that, you know — we were not playing Big-Time College Hoops. Man, like, we were STUDENT athletes. Size 100 font STUDENT, size 12 font athlete. We were “cool, how you hoop and everything…. but I’m going to need that Philosophy paper' athletes.” We shared a practice court with the volleyball team.

Curry was not highly-recruited coming out of high school, primarily because of his lack of size. This is why he ended up in Davidson College in North Carolina, which is not exactly one of the premier sports universities/colleges in the country.

Stephen Curry also shared one of the most humbling experiences he had while at Davidson — one that served as a staunch reminder of his priorities.

I was coming back from dinner, after practice — the night before we played Kansas. Just walking down the hall. And it was the strangest thing ever: I turned the corner down the hallway…. and I ran into about half the team. The guys were sitting there, right on the floor, with their warm-ups on and their clunky 2007 laptops out. Like, this bunch of dudes that had just given back-to-back whoopings to Georgetown and Wisconsin. Sitting on the floor, typing away.

And I’m like, “Umm…. what are y’all doing?”

The whole group of them answer at the same time: “MIDTERMS.”

This just goes to show the type of education and formation they have out there in Davidson. It certainly worked wonders for Stephen Curry, who was molded into becoming one of the greatest basketball players of all-time.
