Following the Golden State Warriors' largest win of the 2018-19 season, Stephen Curry shared a few words of grief for rapper Nipsey Hussle, who was shot six times outside of his clothing store in South Los Angeles and later pronounced dead after the wounds proved fatal.

Curry had developed a recent friendship with Hussle, and mourned the loss of his friend like many fans of his music and his message.

“That was tough,” said Curry. “Obviously, it was a surprise to a lot of people. I got to know him last year and had great conversations about who he was as a person, what he stood for, what his message was, and how he tried to inspire people, considering where he grew up and how he turned that into something extremely powerful,” Curry said. “He represented an entire city. It’s definitely a sad, sad, tragic event. Obviously, I send prayers to his family and his community. Hopefully, they stay strong through this. It’s tough.”

Curry and Hussle even shared a ride last season during Curry's YouTube series “5 Minutes from Home” — as they rode to grab late-night dumplings.

News of Hussle's death pronouncement broke roughly a half hour before the Warriors took the court at Oracle Arena, before a 137-90 coast-to-coast win over the Hornets.

“Senseless crimes don’t need to happen, especially with a guy who was doing what he was doing,” Curry said. “It’s definitely tough. It’s one of those before the game where you just pay your respects the best you can and send love down there to his family.”
