Golden State Warriors superstar point guard Stephen Curry is starting a new travel basketball program in Charlotte called Team Curry.

Team Curry will play on the Under Armour Association travel circuit and feature boys and girls teams:

Langston Wertz Jr. of the Charlotte Observer has a few more details:

Eligible players for Team Curry will come from North Carolina and bordering states. The team will be the second from Charlotte on the UAA travel circuit, joining Team Charlotte, which is run by former UNC point guard Jeff McInnis.

Other travel teams, sponsored by shoe companies in the Charlotte-area include Team Loaded NC (Adidas), CP3 (Nike) and Team United (Nike).

Curry broke his hand on Oct. 30 and underwent his first surgery on Nov. 1. The Warriors’ floor general told reporters in November he “definitely” expects to return at some point this season.

Before he got hurt, Curry was putting up 20.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game while shooting 40.9 percent from the field, 24.3 percent from beyond the arc and a perfect 100 percent from the free-throw line.

Curry signed a five-year, $201 million deal with the Warriors back in the summer of 2017. He’s making $40.2 million this season.

By the time Curry is cleared to play, the Warriors will likely be way out of the playoff picture. However, Steph is a competitor and wants to be out there with his teammates if he can play.

The Warriors currently have the second-worst record in the NBA. They are just 9-29 on the season. Curry is trying to stay active while he's out, and this new travel basketball program in Charlotte is just the latest example of the two-time MVP giving back to his community.

It's still unclear when Stephen Curry will play again this season for the Warriors. The franchise is clearly going to be cautious with Curry since he's the best player on the team.
