It’s not fun to be Golden State Warriors big man Damian Jones right now. According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic and Mark Medina of The Mercury News, Young has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 MCL sprain in his right knee.

Warriors say Damian Jones has a Grade One MCL strain in his right knee. Warriors are listing him as day to day.

Although Jones is listed as day-to-day, meaning there’s a chance he could give it a go for future games in this year’s Summer League, it’s also possible that he gets shut down by the Warriors for the rest of the tournament for safety precautions.
Article Continues BelowJones sustained the injury in last Friday’s 77-71 win over the L.A. Clippers in Las Vegas. Jones played 19 minutes in that game and made nine points, pulled down three rebounds, and blocked a shot.
This is a bummer for Damian Jones, as he’s preparing for what could be an increased workload next season with DeMarcus Cousins not expected to be ready to start the 2018-19 campaign.
Here’s a tweet from Tim Kawakami of The Athletic last month, showing hope for Jones’ increased role for Golden State:
Yes, Damian Jones is very much in their plans. The idea is for him to get playing time no matter what next season and go through some ups and downs and then they'll know how he fits by April. That's the plan, at least. https://t.co/zYoeihvHm2

Jones was taken off the board by the Warriors 30th overall in the 2016 NBA Draft, but has rarely been used by Golden State since. Over the past two seasons, he appeared in only 25 games and averaged microscopic production of 1.8 points, 1.5 rebounds, 0.3 blocks, and 7.0 minutes for the Warriors, while also spending most of his time polishing his craft in the G League.
