The Cleveland Cavaliers have made a flurry of trade deadline deals which have completely overhauled their roster. One of their many moves was to trade veteran guard Dwyane Wade back to the Miami Heat for a heavily-protected second-round pick.
It was a move that caught a lot of people off guard. That includes Heat center Hassan Whiteside, who couldn’t quite believe it when he was asked about the trade that brought Flash back to Miami.
Per Anthony Chiang of the Palm Beach Post:
Hassan Whiteside was just asked about Dwyane Wade returning to the Heat. Whiteside: “Wait, are you for real? Are you joking?”

Whiteside and Wade played alongside one another for two seasons before Wade left in free agency to sign for the Chicago Bulls in 2016. He left in less than ideal terms with president Pat Riley due to the size of the contract he was offered.
Given how things ended between the two, it was doubtful whether Wade would ever return to the franchise he won three championships with. But after one and a half seasons away, Wade is set to go back home to South Beach.
Wade and Whiteside will now be reunited to help the Heat’s playoff push for this season. Even with a recent five-game losing streak, the Heat are still one game ahead of both the Philadelphia 76ers and the Detroit Pistons for the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference.
With Dion Waiters out for the season, Wade should have a bigger role in Miami that he did with Cleveland and provide some much-needed depth for the Heat on the wing.
