Ricky Rubio had a memorable night Wednesday. Not only did he play his first game as a member of the Utah Jazz, he also etched his name in the record books by becoming the third-fastest among active players to reach 3,000 assists, according to the Jazz’s PR team.

Ricky Rubio helped the Jazz beat the visiting Denver Nuggets, 106-96, by putting up nine points to go with five rebounds, two steals, and 10 assists. With those 10 helpers, Rubio now has 3,001 assists in his still-young six-year NBA career.

The Jazz were third-worst in the NBA last season with only 20.1 assists per game, but with Rubio handling point guard duties these days, expect better ball movement for the team moving forward. Rubio has already set the tone for that right in the Jazz’s first game of the season.
Ricky Rubio, however, needs thousands more for him to catch up Utah legend and NBA all-time assists leader, John Stockton, who had 15,806 total dimes.
