After Kobe Bryant retired following the 2015-16 NBA season, the Los Angeles Lakers selected Brandon Ingram with the second overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. As the Lakers began their rebuilding process during Bryant's final seasons, most feel Ingram has the potential to become the new face of the franchise out of the team's young core.
Following an inconsistent rookie season, Ingram is currently averaging 16.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.1 assists through 27 games of the 2017-18 NBA season. With the Lakers set to retire both of Bryant's jersey numbers against the Golden State Warriors on Dec. 18, Ingram was asked about filling the five-time champion's shoes according to Ryan Ward of ClutchPoints:

From Ingram's rookie to sophomore season so far, he has made major improvements, especially with his ability to get to and finish around the rim. As his body and shooting continue to develop, the Lakers are seeing flashes of the franchise player they hope he becomes.
In the team's first matchup against the Warriors, Ingram had perhaps his best performance of his young career with 32 points, five rebounds, and three assists. The next step for the 20-year-old will be having these type of performances on a consistent basis. With Ingram's strong work ethic, he will give himself a chance to fill Bryant's shoes.
