The Los Angeles Lakers are straying a little bit far from the script LaVar Ball saw on his crystal ball prior to the start of the 2017-18 NBA campaign. After taking a crushing 96-81 loss to the Utah Jazz on Saturday, the Lakers dropped to 2-4 and now share the third-worst record in the Western Conference with the Phoenix Suns.

This is disappointing for plenty of Lakers fans even though it’s not difficult to predict that the team is going to struggle from the get-go, considering the lack of experience and the time it would take for Los Angeles’ youngsters to develop and veteran newcomers to get familiar playing in a new environment.

Lakers fans, however, tend to be wildly unreasonable of their expectations of their beloved team. The banners that hang in the rafters of Staples Center serve as much as nightly reminders of the Lakers’ incredible success as a source of unrestrained confidence by spoiled Los Angeles fans who won’t settle for anything less than a championship.

Success will eventually come by for the Lakers, but it’s not going to be this season. And for Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball, fair weather fans should get off the team’s bandwagon right now.

Ball himself is having a topsy-turvy season so far in his first year in the league, but he’s fully aware that before the Lakers become a title contender again, they’ll have to go through a rough phase first.

Hold tight, Lakers fans. This season is going to be quite a ride.
