To say that Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James and Miami Heat icon Dwyane Wade have become good friends is an understatement. The uber-decorated future-Hall-of-Fame duo has garnered their fair share of individual and team accolades, with seven NBA championships and three Olympic golds to boot between the pair.
While Wade retired in 2019 with the Miami Heat, LeBron is still duking it out as a member of the Lakers—albeit currently sidelined by an abdominal injury. In a lighthearted interview between Wade and Stadium, the former Heat guard sends a great message to his former teammate, telling LeBron to keep going and “do something that no one has done before,” the interview was shared by Shams Charania.
“Keep going, bro. You’re going to play so long that people are going to forget we even played together.” – Dwyane Wade on former co-star LeBron James in 19th season. Notably, Wade shared his message to LeBron upon his own retirement, wherein he told James: “You're going to play so long, people are gonna forget we ever played together.”
As LeBron has about 19 years of basketball in the NBA in his bag, the question of when LeBron will hang it up has always surrounded him. Whether LeBron retires in the near future or expands his playing years into his 40s—potentially linking up with his own son, Bronny, in the league, LeBron certainly has been the very definition of longevity.
Wade is correct in saying that LeBron carrying on with his career in such a dominant fashion has never been done in the NBA before, and as basketball fans, we can only buckle up for what the rest of the ride has in store for us.
