The Los Angeles Lakers suffered an unfathomable 107-105 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night, heading into the 2022 NBA trade deadline at a low point of the season. The Lakers didn't have Russell Westbrook to blame for this debacle given he sat out with an injury, and there are no excuses to lose to this current version of the Blazers with LeBron James and Anthony Davis playing.
An exasperated LeBron talked about his struggling team being in a “fog” as the upcoming trade deadline weighs down them. He also admitted to just wanting a glass of wine and wanting to go to sleep:

LeBron had 30 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals in the loss, but he also had six of the Lakers' 21 turnovers in a sloppy performance. The defensive intensity also was not there, with Los Angeles giving up 60 second-half points to a Portland team featuring Anfernee Simons, Jusuf Nurkic and a bunch of reserves.
Anthony Davis stuffed the stat sheet with 17 points, seven rebounds, six assists and five blocks, but he totally disappeared in the fourth quarter. Plus, scoring only 17 points in 41 minutes against that Blazers team simply isn't good enough.
There have been plenty of rumors going around about the Lakers desperately trying to upgrade their roster as they flail around this season, but nothing has happened yet on that front and it's hard to see what could be done to fix all the problems on the team. The Westbrook situation has gotten toxic, and there's also a cloud hanging over head coach Frank Vogel.
This Lakers team is a mess right now at 26-30. We'll see if they make any moves and can build any momentum on the other side of the trade deadline.
