Magic Johnson, the former President of Basketball Operations of the Los Angeles Lakers, has expressed interest in helping the team recruit free agents once the market opens on Sunday. However, for those people wondering if he will be present during the Lakers' meetings with some of the top free agents, no he won't.
Magic Johnson says he will help the Los Angeles Lakers in free agency in any way he can, but he is not permitted by NBA rules to be part of official team meetings with prospective free agents. Johnson said he has not been asked by the Lakers or owner Jeanie Buss to participate.

Since Johnson isn't part of the Lakers, he is not allowed to be present in any of their meetings with the likes of Kawhi Leonard, Kyrie Irving or Kemba Walker. What he can do is have a separate meeting and convince them that the Purple and Gold is their best option.

They just talked in the latter's mansion when free agency opened last year, and the next thing you know, the four-time MVP signed a four-year deal to be the face of the franchise.
According to Magic himself, a close friend of his told him that Kawhi wants to seek his advice regarding free agency, and Johnson said he'd be open to meeting the reigning Finals MVP in person. However, he also said that he doesn't intend to ‘mess' with someone else's job.
Magic is one of the most influential figures in the history of the NBA, so it is no surprise as to why some of these free agents would want to ask for his opinion. But at the end of the day, what matters is the pitch that will be made by the Lakers.
