Along with Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has headlined the “More Than a Vote” movement that recently penned an open letter for fans about Black voter suppression.

The lengthy message started off by providing an introduction of the movement and the cause they are fighting for:

We are a coalition of Black athletes and artists who came together amid the protests fueled by the murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor by police. We are focused on systemic, targeted voter suppression in our community and have a specific mission: educate, energize and protect Black voters. We are driven by a shared understanding that our influence and prominence, particularly among young people, is a responsibility to continue the tradition of Black athletes working together to fight for justice and equality.

The whole letter was posted on the website of The Undefeated, and you can go visit the link here.

LeBron James also posted a tweet encouraging others to read the letter and support them:

The letter provided a three-pronged approach as to the concrete action the readers can take, starting with the registering for and actually going out to vote. They are also reminding everyone about the importance of guarding your vote.

Secondly, the movement prompts those who are capable to volunteer to work the polls. For those who can afford it, monetary contributions for the cause is recommended, but otherwise, one can always volunteer one's time and effort.

Finally, the letter recommends that everyone “share information that will educate, energize, and protect Black voters.”

It is a relatively long read but is certainly worth the time.

Other NBA personalities besides James have also signed their names on this open letter include Ray Allen, Mo Bamba, Eric Bledsoe, Caron Butler, Draymond Green, Udonis Haslem, Damian Lillard, Kyle Lowry, CJ McCollum, Kendrick Perkins, Jalen Rose, Ben Simmons, and  Trae Young.
