Memphis Grizzlies rookie Ja Morant was the driving force behind the team's 105-88 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday night, but he has nothing but respect for LeBron James.
Morant has previously shared his admiration for Russell Westbrook and his opinion of Russ as one of the more underappreciated players in the NBA. After Saturday's win, Morant took time to praise LeBron James, calling the Lakers superstar a unique individual both in a basketball sense as well as culturally.
“He’s just one of a kind,” Morant said about the Lakers forward, per Omari Sankofa II of The Athletic. “I don’t think there can be another LeBron. Off the court, just what he’s doing in the community. Impacting different people’s lives. I just seen, he just sent people to school for free. That’s something most people don’t do. Most people don’t have hearts like that. I’m sure everybody has seen after the game at Staples and said whatever I need, on and off the court, just to hit him up. That’s just special right there.”

While Morant lauded LeBron's sheer impact, James shared some words of his own with respect to Ja's talent, calling him “special” and also saying “the sky's the limit” for the rising Grizzlies star.
Morant and James exchanged jerseys after the game, one that Morant dominated. The former Murray State star scored 27 points to go along with 14 assists and six rebounds in their win over the Lakers. He shot 10-of-16 from the field and 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, controlling the flow of the game from start to finish.
The 20-year-old Ja Morant had the upper hand on Saturday, but he also acknowledged what LeBron James has meant to the sport. Needless to say, there is plenty of mutual respect between the up-and-coming youngster and the current face of the NBA.
