When the Milwaukee Bucks fired head coach Jason Kidd, Giannis Antetokounmpo was quite upset. He reportedly called Kidd before he was officially informed to see if there was anything he could do to prevent the firing.
But Kidd's firing went through, the team named an interim coach, and the season goes on as planned. There were some thinking that because Kidd and Antetokounmpo were quite close, there would be a problem between the organization and its star player.
But the word on the street is Antetokounmpo still has a good relationship with the team, per David Aldridge of NBA.com.
Antetokounmpo’s relationship with the team, per sources, remains solid. But obviously, the Bucks can’t whiff on the next coach, whether it’s Prunty or any of a group of very capable former coaches currently between jobs who would certainly be interested in further grooming Antetokounmpo’s already blossoming game.
This is extremely good news for the organization and also for Bucks fans. Antetokounmpo is the best player the Bucks have had since Ray Allen, and he's way better than Allen. It's not even close.
Article Continues BelowThe team has to do whatever it takes to keep Antetokounmpo happy from this point forward. So far, it appears that is happening. But when it comes to the coaching search that will come eventually, the organization would be best served to consult Antetokounmpo in that search. They should even ask Antetokounmpo to approve of that choice.
If the team can't keep their star player happy, he'll lose trust and look to leave. That's what happens when an organization proves to a player that it doesn't know what it's doing.
The Bucks can't afford to have that happen.
