In the closing seconds of the fourth quarter during a huge 115-113 victory over the Houston Rockets on Friday night, New Orleans Pelicans All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins' season was ended in the blink of an eye when he tore his left Achilles. It was quite shocking, to say the least, and the outpour of support for Cousins continued today when retired Los Angeles Lakers legendary shooting guard Kobe Bryant sent out a heartfelt tweet to the big man.

Bryant certainly knows what it's like to deal with a torn Achilles tendon, as he famously sustained the injury and still proceeded to sink two free throws against the Golden State Warriors in 2013. Surely Cousins will reach out to Bryant sooner than later.

Cousins' injury occurred with just under 15 seconds remaining in regulation after he chased down his own missed free-throw attempt.

After the game, Pelicans All-Star power forward Anthony Davis spoke about his injury and how the team will have to regroup to fight through his absence.

“We were just figuring everything out. That's the tough part. We've got to keep going and just keep finding a way to win,” Davis said. “We've got enough guys in here who are professionals who are always ready when their number's called, so we've got to make sure that we stay locked in.”

On Saturday morning, the Pelicans released the following statement:

“The New Orleans Pelicans announced today that center DeMarcus Cousins has been diagnosed with a rupture of the left Achilles tendon. Pelicans Director of Medical Services/Head Team Physician Dr. Misty Suri performed the initial examination and diagnosis. An MRI taken last night confirmed the diagnosis as a left Achilles tendon rupture. Cousins will undergo surgery to repair the injury and will miss the remainder of the season. Further updates will be provided appropriately,” the team's statement said.

Before his unfortunate exit in the game, Cousins had a triple-double with 15 points, 13 rebounds, 11 assists and three steals in 30 minutes of action.
