Following the departure of Carmelo Anthony in the offseason, it was clear that the New York Knicks are handing over the franchise player title to Kristaps Porzingis. They have embraced the youth movement, and are building around him, together with other young prospects who they all see as key pieces in their future plans.

With the Latvian unicorn being the focal point of the Knicks' offense this year, it’s not surprising that he has been taking a lot of shots during games. The Kristaps Porzingis has responded well for the Knicks, as he already has a number of impressive performances in the young season.

He had another strong outing on Sunday, as he finished their game against the Cleveland Cavaliers with 32 points and 12 rebounds in 36 minutes of action. He also rewrote the Knicks’ history books by becoming their first player ever to score at least 30 points in four of their first five games of the campaign.

Through five games, Porzingis is averaging career-high numbers of 26.5 points and 7.8 rebounds, to go along with 1.3 blocks per game. He is definitely living up to expectations, and is giving the New York faithful a lot to cheer about despite the team losing their biggest star in the summer.

If he continues the excellent start he’s had, the Knicks could be in line for a strong season, and could even contend for a playoff spot in the wide open Eastern Conference. Kristaps Porzingis’ solid production may also take his career to the next level, and establish himself as an elite player of the league.
