In a packed race for the Rookie of the Year Award, Josh Giddey is starting to make some progress towards the frontrunners. The Oklahoma City Thunder's 6-foot-8 point guard has been one of the better rookies overall throughout the season.

Giddey averages 12.4 points, 7.8 rebounds and 6.4 assists per game. The 19-year-old leads the rookie class in assists per game by over a full assist, is second in rebounds per game behind center Evan Mobley and is eighth in points per game. Just before the All-Star break, the Thunder's budding star just finished a run of games that no rookie has done in over 60 years.

By tallying 17 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in a loss to the San Antonio Spurs, Giddey did something that no rookie has done since Oscar Robertson: record three consecutive triple-doubles.

Not only did Giddey reach territory that only a Hall of Famer has reached, but he tied Luka Doncic for the most triple-doubles by a teenager and is setting records for the youngest player to record one. The Thunder, with Giddey and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, may have found their backcourt for the future.

Giddey began his triple-double streak in a loss to the Chicago Bulls, recording 11 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. Then he exploded for a monster performance against the New York Knicks in Madison Square Garden, scoring a career-high 28 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds to lead Oklahoma City to an overtime win.

Great performances from their youngsters are all the Thunder can hope for this season. They are bad by design, sporting the fourth-worst record in the league at 18-40. Watching Giddey shine should still make this season worthwhile for Thunder fans.
