Oklahoma City Thunder forward Paul George has become a three-point marksman this season, using his newfound elite three-point efforts to carry him toward consideration for the MVP award.

From Nov. 30 until Mar. 5, George had knocked down multiple three-pointers in all 40 contests that he played in. Come Thursday in his team's overtime win over the Portland Trail Blazers, though, that streak came to a halt.

It certainly wasn't for a lack of trying. George hoisted nine threes — just below his season average of 9.8 per contest — with only one finding the bottom of the net. He finished 7-for-23 from the field overall, his second consecutive difficult shooting performance since returning from a shoulder ailment.

While his streak ends on a nice, round number, it was also more than that: It was historic. George's 40 straight games with multiple triples is the third-longest streak in league history, behind only Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry, who is currently in the midst of a 41-game span himself.

George and Curry have jockeyed alongside the Houston Rockets' James Harden all season for three-point supremacy. While George sits third in the pack with an average of 3.8 makes per contest, he is out-converting Harden percentage-wise (39.1 vs. 36.3) and outscoring Curry overall (28.6 vs. 28.3).

Streak or not, George remains firmly in the hunt for the league's MVP honors in 2018-19. His next chance to start his three-point barrage up again comes Saturday against the L.A. Clippers, whom George has hit at least three triples against in each of their three prior meetings this season.
