Sacramento Kings forward Rudy Gay had surgery on his Achilles this summer, but he's looking forward to getting back to the gym and weight room to work on his game before the season starts.

Here's Rudy's statement:

“I actually had surgery. I had Achilles tendinitis, basically micro tears in my Achilles and for the past two seasons it's been bothering me so I've been trying to play through it and I got to a point where I needed to have it fixed so I got it fixed.

I feel better than I have in at least two years. I'm excited.”

Achilles tendinitis isn't something to take lightly, but it sounds like the surgery wasn't too major. Rudy's excited for next season as he recovers, and assuming he does, he can an offensive threat for a Sacramento Kings team that needs a consistent scorer other than DeMarcus Cousins.

Even though that tear happened two seasons ago, Rudy Gay still averaged 21.1 points last year, a career best.

Rudy Gay was drafted 8th overall in 2006 by the Houston Rockets, but he was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies, along with Stromile Swift, for Shane Battier.

He played with the Grizzlies until 2013, where he was a part of the All-Rookie First Team in 2007. He was then traded to the Raptors for Ed Davis and Jose Calderon, who was then traded to the Pistons.

Gay played with the Raptors for less than a year, averaging 19.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.6 assists. Finally, he was shipped to the Kings for Patrick Patterson, Chuck Hayes, John Salmons, and Greivis Vasquez.
