The mid-range jumper seems to be going by the wayside in the NBA, as it's simply a low-percentage shot for most players. Nowadays, coaches instruct their players to get in the paint or find an open three-point shooter. Washington Wizards point guard Austin Rivers is taking this revelation seriously. In fact, he's ready to shoot nothing but threes.

Rivers spoke to reporters with regards to his mid-range game following Monday night's overtime win against the Houston Rockets.

“I’m gonna shoot hundreds and hundreds and hundreds more shots this year,” Rivers told Fred Katz of The Athletic. “I might shoot two mid-range. I’ll probably be the most extreme case of the analytic movement this year.”

The Wizards acquired Rivers by way of an offseason trade with the L.A. Clippers. In his 20 appearances with Washington, the former Duke Blue Devil has racked up averages of 7.2 points on 40.9 percent shooting from the field (31.3 percent from beyond the arc), 2.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 22.6 minutes per outing.

As a reserve player with the Wizards, Austin's first instinct was to defer to his teammates. Now, however, he's starting to play with a bit more aggression.

“I think I've finally [figured it out],” Rivers told NBC Sports. “I have to be more aggressive. They actually like that, too, because it makes it easier for them because I will attack and then they get easy shots instead of having to work for every shot.”

Rivers and the Wizards (8-12 and 3rd in the Southeast Division) will be back in action on Wednesday night, as they're scheduled for a matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans. Tip-off inside Capital One Arena is set for 8:00 p.m. EST. Let's see how many threes Rivers puts up.
