The much-awaited encounter between the Clemson Tigers and the Florida State Seminoles was abruptly postponed hours before the tipoff. According to CBS Sports‘ Dennis Dodd, the issue emerged when an asymptomatic Clemson player had his Friday COVID-19 test come back positive Saturday morning, ahead of the scheduled date with FSU.

Florida State hesitated on playing the game even if it was to be rescheduled on either Sunday or Monday while Clemson held a different stance and wanted the game to push through within the next couple of days. The disagreement between the two teams eventually pushed back the matchup to be played on a later date in December.

“We are disappointed that we will not be able to play today's game against Florida State,” Clemson athletic director Dan Radakovich said. “Clemson has followed all of the ACC's protocol in preparation for this game. We look ahead to returning to action next week against Pitt for Senior Day and Military Appreciation Day.”

The tilt will supposedly mark the return of Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence on the field after missing a couple of games due to having a positive COVID-19 case. Freshman quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei eventually started under center in lieu of Lawrence's absence and racked up impressive numbers in his first start against the Boston College Eagles where he led the team to a 34-28 come-from-behind win.

A tougher Notre Dame Fighting Irish squad then squared off against the Tigers in the following week with Ian Book and company coming out on top with a 47-40 victory in overtime to deal head coach Dabo Swinney and his troops their first loss of the season.

The Tigers currently hold a 7-1 record and will face the Pittsburgh Panthers next on November 27 while the Seminoles find themselves struggling with a 2-6 tally and will lock horns with the Virginia Cavaliers on the same game date.
