It's the start of the summer next month. And on Disney+, the newest Star Wars series will premiere, The Acolyte.

The series is part of the Star Wars franchise and is set at the end of the High Republic Era, about a century before the events of the main Star Wars movies. It follows the story of a Jedi master investigating a series of crimes. This brings him to contact with a former Padawan, which will then reveal the existence of sinister forces.

The show stars Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Charlie, Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo and Carrie-Anne Moss.

The Acolyte traces the Siths' origins

The Acolyte's showrunner is Leslye Headland (Russian Doll). The series marks a significant milestone for the franchise, which will delve into the largely unexplored depths of the mysterious and intriguing High Republic era. This period was only previously explored in books and comics. It featured Space Vikings and the plant-like creatures Drengir who share one mind.

The show serves as a prequel to prequel episode films: 1999's Star Wars I: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, 2002's Attack of the Clones and 2005's Revenge of the Sith. It will explore the origins of the Sith. Headland previously said that she wanted to get into how the Sith came back from the brink of extinction up to the rise of Palpatine and what the Sith's master plan really is.

Star Wars: The Acolyte will premiere on June 4 with two episodes. The rest of the six episodes will be released weekly.

Happy 90th birthday, Donald Duck!

And going back to the House of Mouse, Disney will celebrate Donald Duck's 90th anniversary with the 1950 animated shorts Crazy Over Daisy and Out on a Limb. Known for his semi-intelligible speech, mischief and an allergy to trousers, the temperamental and pompous Donald Duck, along with his friend Mickey Mouse, were part of TV Guide's 50 Greatest Cartoon Characters of All Time in 2002. Donald was number 43, while Mickey was number 19.

Donald Duck also has his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and is the Disney characters with the most number of appearances in films: 197 to Mickey's 167.
