In recent news, the NFL has rescinded the one helmet rule, allowing NFL teams to wear alternate uniforms starting in 2022, per NBC Sports. Many fans and players are excited about the new rule, as it allows for teams to bring back some of the great throwback uniforms in the game. Not every franchise has an awesome throwback uniform, as the franchise is either too new, or their old uniforms were hideous.

Either way, 2022 should be a fun year, as NFL teams around the league will have the chance to showcase a different look on the field. It's a nice change of pace for the NFL, as the league has mockingly been called the “No Fun League,” while under Rodger Goodell's control. That might be changing though, as the commissioner has relieved his harsh rules against celebrating a few years ago, to go along with the new helmet rule.

Many fans have already gone to social media to let their favorite teams know which helmets they want to be brought into the organization. Some will be awesome, some might be ugly, but only a handful of these helmets should be viewed as the best. With that said, here are seven of the best alternate NFL helmets.

7. Buffalo Bills retro helmet

The Buffalo Bills have had a few different helmets in their past, but the one on this list is the old-school white helmet with the red buffalo. It was the main helmet for the organization from 1965-1973 and could be making an appearance again in 2022. It maintains the Bills red, white, and blue color scheme, and looks rather sleek on the field. It's easily one of the best retro helmets the league has ever seen.

6. Seattle Seahawks retro helmet

The Seattle Seahawks logo has looked relatively the same since the birth of the franchise. However, they've gone through a few different helmet styles during their time. The best one that the team hopefully brings back is the silver helmet that was worn in the 1970s. It's a fantastic color scheme and would be a nod to the Seahawks of old as well.

5. Tennessee Titans retro Oilers helmet

This franchise was known as the Houston Oilers, then became the Tennessee Oilers for a short stint. Now under the name of the Tennessee Titans, this organization has one of the coolest retro helmets in the game. The old-school white helmet with the blue oil drill is the best retro helmet this franchise has, and it would be great to see Derrick Henry wearing the Oilers uniform while dominating the run game.

4. Denver Broncos retro helmet

The Broncos have one of the coolest logos in the NFL right now, but they also had one of the best helmets before switching it all up in the 1990s. The big “D” for Denver with a bronco bucking in the middle, should be the helmet of choice for this franchise. It brings a smooth blue and bright orange, giving the uniforms and helmet a little pop. it's easily one of the best helmets in NFL history.

3. New England Patriots retro helmet

The Patriots used to have a more traditional red, white, and blue color scheme. This was when the organization used a literal Patriot ready to hike the ball as their logo. That is the exact helmet the Patriots should bring back, as it's arguably one of the best uniforms the NFL has ever seen.

2. Philadelphia Eagles retro helmet

There are a plethora of different helmets this organization has played under, but only one is deserving of a return. That is the green helmet with the silver wings. The team wore these as their main helmets from 1974-1995. It's a brighter green than what we typically see Philadelphia wear, but it's a smooth look for this organization.

1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers retro helmet

The Buccaneers' old-school logo might just be the coolest in all of sports. The creamsicle uniforms, along with the pirate holding the dagger in his mouth, is a fan favorite that is sure to generate some jersey sales. It's a logo the franchise never should have gone away from, as it's a perfect display of a true Buccaneer.
