The Pro Bowl often becomes a forgotten part of the NFL season. Due to the fact that the annual event takes place between championship weekend and the Super Bowl, most NFL fans are either preparing for the Super Bowl or simply tuning out because of what typically becomes a lackluster affair.

However, it appears as though there was at least some interest in this year's event as approximately eight million people tuned in on Sunday afternoon.

On Monday, ESPN formally announced that it averaged eight million viewers on both ESPN and ABC for Sunday’s outing. Between 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time, the game peaked with an audience of just under nine million at 8,931,000.

Last season, $8.6 million tuned into the Pro Bowl at its peak.

According to NBC Sports’ Pro Football Talk, “The top 10 metered markets Sunday were: Kansas City (13.9), Pittsburgh (8.6), Norfolk (8.2), West Palm Beach (8.1), Cleveland (8.1), Chicago (7.8), Buffalo (7.8), Seattle-Tacoma (7.4), New Orleans (7.3), and Orlando (7.3).”

Perhaps the rain played a factor? And not in the way one may think!

Due to the poor weather on Sunday, the 2019 Pro Bowl quickly turned into a school-yard version of the game we all know and love. Offensive players were playing defense and defensive players were catching passing and running the ball on offense. The slippery surface also made for some interesting return attempts, like on one interception return from the NFC side when just about every player touched the ball thanks to a series of laterals.

All-in-all, Sunday's contest was quite fun to watch if you were lucky enough to tune in.
