Longtime New York Giants head coach and current Jacksonville Jaguars executive Tom Coughlin was hospitalized after a biking accident in Jacksonville last weekend, per Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Coughlin said he suffered four fractured ribs and a “slightly punctured rib” while also needing stitches in his head.

The two-time Super Bowl-winning head coach said he was thrown off balance by another biker, forcing him to lose control of his own vehicle:

Another man on a racing bike, in the words of Coughlin, “comes out of nowhere and clips the front of my bike.” Coughlin said he thought he was aware of his surroundings, until being blindsided.

Coughlin first went home before his family convinced him to go to the Baptist Health emergency room, where he underwent X-rays and a CT scan. Doctors told Coughlin he faces a four- to six-week recovery.

Tom Coughlin began his coaching career with the Jags in 1995. He led the team to an improbable playoff run in 1996 just one year after going 4-12, including a massive upset over the Denver Broncos. Coughlin would also lead Jacksonville to the playoffs in each of the next three seasons, with the 1999 team winning 14 games.

However, Coughlin struggled to win the big one. That all changed when he returned as head coach of the Giants following a two-year hiatus.

Coughlin earned a pair of Lombardi Trophy's in 2007 and 2011, both times leading the G-Men from the Wild Card round all the way to the Super Bowl.

The Waterloo, New York native moved on from coaching in 2015, and returned to join the Jaguars' front office in 2017, though he was fired this past winter under strange circumstances.

Hopefully, Coughlin will make a speedy recovery.
