Why the Bengals Could Win

The Bengals are a very solid team. They have had their struggles but are starting to piece together a successful 2021 season. They have a winning record and could have had an even better one. Last week, they took a very good Green Bay Packers team to overtime and narrowly lost. Cincinnati fans should feel good in spite of the loss and optimistic about the team's future. The Packers haven't lost a game since they were embarrassed in Week 1. Bengals fans might be frustrated with the loss last week, but they should look toward the future.

Joe Mixon was questionable heading into Week 5 but ultimately ended up playing. However, his production and volume were both down. With another week behind him, Mixon is returning to full health. This is huge for the Bengals. The Cincinnati running back sets the pace for this team, so having him at full health makes the team much better. They were able to compete against the Packers with Mixon not at full health. The Bengals should more than be able to handle Detroit with a healthier Mixon.

Another bright spot in the Cincinnati offense has been Ja'Marr Chase. The clear favorite target of Joe Burrow, Chase has been having a phenomenal rookie season. Last week, he exploded for nearly 160 yards and a touchdown. The rookie receiver will look to continue his dominance against a week Detroit defense.

Lastly, the Bengals' defense has been very solid this year. Allowing only 350 yards of offense per game, Cincinnati has managed to control opponents' passing games. Detroit will have a tough time getting anything going. This Bengals team is ready to get a victory after a disappointing overtime loss last week.

Why the Lions Could Win

The Lions barely lost to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 5. A game-winning field goal notched a victory for Minnesota and left a bitter taste in Detroit's mouth. As the Lions return home after two road games, they do so with one thing on their mind: Getting that first win.

Many people thought D'Andre Swift would have a breakout 2021 season. While that hasn't fully been the case, the Lions are starting to figure out their run game. Detroit has shifted to a committee approach, meaning Swift is now splitting carries with Jamaal Williams. Together they combined for 25 carries and over 100 rushing yards last week. This is a positive sign for Detroit. If they can figure out their run game, the rest of the offense will get better.

While the Detroit defense isn't the best in the league, they have managed to stop the pass effectively. Holding opposing teams to 250 passing yards per game, Detroit will force the Bengals to lean heavily on their running backs. Joe Mixon is still recovering from an injury that had him questionable in Week 5. If the Detroit run defense can manage the Bengals' running game, they should be able to remain competitive.

Final Bengals-Lions Prediction & Pick

This is an easy one. The Bengals should definitely win this game. Detroit is 0-5 for a reason; they just haven't been very good this season, even if they've stayed somewhat competitive. The Bengals are really starting to come into their own. Joe Burrow is starting to look like a solid quarterback, Ja'Marr Chase is having a phenomenal rookie season and Joe Mixon should be healthy. They are facing a weak Lions team that hasn't shown much to be afraid of. Even though this is a road game for the Bengals, they should have no problem snatching a victory. Pick the Bengals to win and cover.

FINAL PICK: Cincinnati Bengals -3.5 (-110)
