The Atlanta Falcons have made no secret of a desire to improve their offensive line before the 2019 season kicks off. And according to one NFL reporter, the team has already earmarked one player it hopes will help spark that improvement.

ESPN's Vaugh McClure reports that the Falcons left the NFL combine with “a strong interest” in Oklahoma offensive lineman Cody Ford.

“The Falcons have a strong interest in Oklahoma offensive lineman Cody Ford (6-4, 329) and had a formal meeting with him,” McClure wrote on twitter on Wednesday. “They love his toughness. Ford started at right tackle in 14 games last season and started at left guard for seven games in 2016 and 2017.”

Ford played in multiple spots along the Sooners offensive line throughout his career due to injuries to teammates. He started three games at guard as a redshirt freshman in 2016 before being lost for the season with injury, and returned a season later to start four games at left guard. The Louisiana native moved to right tackle last season, earning Third-Team All-America honors for arguably the top offensive line in college football.

The Falcons struggled offensively in 2018 despite a wealth of talent on that side of the football, a failing many believe boils down to the team's play along the offensive line. Coach Dan Quinn admitted as much in January, telling 92.9 The Game that Atlanta has plans to “scrub every bit” of the line with the exception of center Alex Mack and left tackle Jake Matthews.

“I’m comfortable at center and left tackle in the same way as you said,” he said, per The Falcoholic. “Past that, you scrub every bit of it. One of the projects we’re going through with the staff now is we’re all watching the season together, in order, on both sides of the ball together.”

Ford, 6-foot-4 and 329 pounds, is generally considered a top-three interior offensive line prospect in the 2019 draft class.
