With the offseason already being kicked into full gear, the Atlanta Falcons are among the teams looking to re-tool their roster following a disappointing end to the 2017 NFL season. As a result, they will be looking to shed many of the contracts they took on last offseason.

The Falcons already announced the release of longtime tight end Levine Toilolo. According to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, he will be accompanied by defensive end Derrick Shelby:

Friday brought a report that the Falcons will release tight end Levine Toilolo and an announcement that they have released defensive end Derrick Shelby.

Shelby had joined the Falcons via free agency prior to their successful 2016 campaign. Unfortunately, he was unable to finish his first season in Atlanta due to an Achilles injury.

Shelby largely underwhelmed in his comeback after recording just 30 tackles and a sack in 14 games as a starter. As a result, the Falcons have decided to part ways in an attempt to save as much cap space as they can for the rest of the offseason.

The defensive line will undoubtedly be an area of focus with a several of its key members set to hit free agency. General manager Thomas Dimitroff has also admitted that some changes to the personnel are on the way. Although, the extent to which remains to be seen.

The Falcons already made it clear that linebacker Vic Beasley will be making the switch back to defensive end. However, Atlanta is in serious jeopardy of losing other pieces along the defensive line such as Dontari Poe, Adrian Clayborn, and Courtney Upshaw.
