The Atlanta Falcons managed a rare victory after taking down the Carolina Panthers. However, they paid a steep price as they lose an important defender in Desmond Trufant to a broken arm.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network was one of the first people to give an update on the injury he sustained during the game. Due to the need for surgery, this has officially been the final game the cornerback for the remainder of the season.

Trufant has only made one tackle during the game before breaking his hand. His abrupt end to the season is a painful loss for the Falcons. His absence will definitely reduce their effectiveness in the passing lanes. He's one of the team's interception leaders with four. With games against San Francisco and Jacksonville still looming, it'll be especially difficult for the Falcons to keep themselves competitive.

However, Falcons fans could somehow console themselves on the fact that they lost Trufant at the point when they don't have anything left to play for. The Falcons are already eliminated from the playoff race, and the remaining fixtures of the season will be played for nothing but boasting rights and stats.

Trufant, who played college football for Washington, had 17 tackles and seven pass deflections to go with his four interceptions.
