The Atlanta Falcons managed to record their first win in Week 2. However, it appears wide receiver Julio Jones may have left a bit banged up.
Jones was surprisingly a non-participant in practice. According to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, it was due to a calf injury.
Article Continues BelowFalcons wide receiver Julio Jones missed practice with a calf injury on Wednesday, according to the team’s official injury report.
The severity of Jones' injury is currently unknown. However, it is possible that the Falcons are simply taking every precaution they can to make sure their star wideout is available for the entire season.
Jones was not his usual stellar self in Week 2 as he finished with five receptions for 64 yards. Fortunately, Atlanta had no issues putting points on the board thanks to quarterback Matt Ryan's dynamic performance. Ryan completed 23-of-28 passes for two touchdowns and an interception. He also managed to tack on two more touchdowns on the ground. Needless to say, his outing was encouraging given the abysmal performance in the season opener.
Regardless, there is still some concern regarding Jones' sudden calf injury. When healthy, there is no debating that he is the most talented wideout in the NFL. However, his only kryptonite has been the occasional lingering injury. Atlanta has high hopes for themselves this season. Although they were able to get a solid performance from their supporting cast, the Falcons will need Jones to be 100 percent if they have any hope of competing in the playoffs. That said, it will be interesting to see if his designation changes later in the week.
