Depending on the system, some rookies have to be gently inserted to the starting lineup for them to be effective. For Atlanta Falcons offensive lineman Kaleb McGary, that chance is going to come sooner rather than later.

There hasn't been a solid option at right tackle for the Falcons this season, and they drafted McGary late in the first round to help address those issues. And it seems to the team that the former Washington tackle is now ready to take on the mantle of team starter.

Per D. Orlando Ledbetter in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

“We’ll look at that as we’re heading into the game,” Falcons coach Dan Quinn said. “Certainly part of the plan right now, but it may or may not, as we get down through the end of the week. We’re certainly pleased with Kaleb’s (McGary) first lap through.”

There have been high hopes surrounding the 31st overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft. It seems like the team agrees with him but will take his condition into consideration.

“Once we feel like, from a conditioning standpoint, (McGary is) ready to take it over the whole time, I think Kaleb will do that.”

“I think Kaleb has done a nice job,” (quarterback Matt) Ryan said. “I thought he played well for us Sunday when he was in the game. He played physical. I know that they’re kind of working him back into condition having missed some time during training camp. He did a nice job when he was in there. He played tough for us.”

McGary is set to become the first option over Ty Sambrailo and Matt Gono. Sambrailo is now on his third season with the Falcons while Gono is in his second as an undrafted free agent out of Delaware's Wesley College.

He will be an important component for the Falcons' running game. Their lack of running yards against the Vikings in Week 1 shows the need to improve their O-line. McGary promises that and more.
