If the Atlanta Falcons are going to trade up in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the struggling NFC South franchise might as well go all out in the process. While the Falcons have already been rumored to at least be exploring the opportunity of moving up in the first round of April's NFL Draft, it is no secret that Atlanta is currently in desperate need of a dynamic pass rusher to control the edge for the team's defense.

So why not try to secure the best pass rusher in this year's NFL Draft class? Although it will take the Falcons giving up quite a bit to move up to the No. 2 slot in the first round while replacing the Washington Redskins, Atlanta would then be in line to select former Ohio State Buckeyes pass rusher Chase Young.

Young is believed to be the best overall talent in this year's class, while many believe that the former collegiate standout will quickly become a perennial Pro Bowler. If the Falcons are going to turn things around in a hurry, especially in the always dangerous NFC South division, Young is the type of player that is going to help Atlanta both in the present and in the future.

“Elite size, length and athleticism created loads of production and a vaulted pro projection, but Young's set of disruptive properties have yet to be fully weaponized,” reads Young's 2020 NFL Draft profile on NFL.com. “He's fairly basic as a pass rusher, with just a couple of go-to moves and an occasional inside counter, and yet he still managed 16.5 sacks in 2019. He has the traits to overwhelm many of the tackles he faces, and it won't take long for teams to add a bull-rush, a rip-and-run and a stab counter into his repertoire. He plays a little upright at the point of attack, and his ball awareness is below average, but those concerns aren't enough to counterbalance his range and agility as a run defender. Young possesses superior traits and the ability to wreck and alter offensive game-plans as a perennial All-Pro.”
Leading the Falcons to this point along the defensive front, Atlanta was previously employing another former collegiate standout in pass rusher Vic Beasley. However, Beasley won't be returning to Atlanta and is currently gearing up to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason. As a result, the Falcons can immediately replace Beasley and then some if Atlanta is able to trade up en route to selecting Young in place of the aforementioned, a team that may be willing to trade back into the first round due to the many needs that the lowly NFC East franchise presently has.
If the Redskins can acquire a slew of picks from the Falcons in exchange for that No. 2 overall pick and thus the services of Young, it may be something that Washington and new head coach Ron Rivera will be forced to at least consider heading into late April. On the other hand, is Young so good that the Redskins can simply not afford to pass on adding him despite the team's varying needs?
Regardless, if the Falcons are going to part ways with some additional draft capital in order to move up into the very early portion of the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, it must be for a player that is totally worth it. It is safe to say that Young is definitely worth the risk and the eventual reward.
