Former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis is yet another player facing heavy scrutiny from the public for his stance and actions on the current issues regarding the National Anthem protests that have been dividing the NFL's players and some fans.

Jeff Baker of the Baltimore Sun reported that security has been increased surrounding Lewis' statue due to a petition that was filed for the removal of it in the wake of Lewis kneeling for the Anthem this past Sunday. About 36,000 people have signed the petition to remove the two-time Super Bowl champion's statue from M&T Bank Stadium's grounds.

Lewis is a vocal detractor of former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who kick-started the movement of taking a knee during the national anthem in protest of police brutality and racial injustices in our country. However, last Sunday, Lewis was seen down on both knees, locking arms with Ravens players during the singing of the National Anthem

Lewis stated that he was down on both knees praying, not showing his defiance alongside the rest of the Ravens. However, many fans aren't buying that excuse and are disgruntled by Lewis' hypocrisy.

The 42-year-old has been an active philanthropist around the Baltimore area, primarily through his Ray Lewis 52 Foundation, which provides personal and economic aid for disadvantaged youth. Unfortunately, Lewis' charitable deeds will be overlooked given the added controversy that he has caused with his actions and statements.
