Chicago Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky started to come into his own during the 2018 NFL season. He credits his emergence to finally finding his footing in the NFL.
Trubisky's career got off to a rough start before he was able to lead the Bears to a surprisingly successful 2018 campaign. According to Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic, he feels much more comfortable in Chicago now than he did as a rookie:
“Being year two in the offense, year three in the NFL and the city of Chicago, quarterback for the Bears, the level of my comfort and how everything is different, you just become more and more comfortable. Now I’m comfortable to do things like this. My No. 1 focus has always been football. If that’s going right, then everything off the field will take care of itself. That’s what I wanted people on the outside to know about me. My family already knows that about me and the people in the building know that about me, that football is my No. 1 priority.”
Trubisky's comments are certainly understandable. He struggled to find his rhythm during his rookie year and was forced to hear all the speculation about his status as the Bears future franchise quarterback. Fortunately, the team made some notable upgrades to their personnel and were able to take significant strides last season. Now that both he and the team exceeded expectations, all the criticisms and self-doubt have died down for the time being.
Of course, expectations are now higher than ever in Chicago. It is safe to say that the Bears are no longer taking any teams by surprise. Trubisky will need this newfound comfort and confidence if he hopes to lead this team to a deep playoff run next season.
