The Chicago Bears have pushed forward in the 2018 season with plenty of confidence that second-year quarterback Mitchell Trubisky can take a significant leap in his development toward becoming a bonafide franchise player that can lead the team to much success.

The bulk of this will hinge on his comfort throwing the ball more effectively in any situation that presented to him. According to Bob LeGere of Pro Football Weekly, Trubisky has voiced that he feels at ease making passes on the move outside of the pocket.

“I like it a lot,” Trubisky said of throwing from outside the pocket. “I feel comfortable on the move. It's just another way to switch up the launch point in the pocket. I think it helps the offensive line a lot because the defensive linemen can't just pin their ears back and come after the quarterback.”

These are the type of scenarios that will arise during a game when the pocket either collapses or defenders are covering the wide receivers well initially during a play. It is an area that could prove to be vital to him being able to take the next step in his maturation as a quarterback in the NFL as there will be occasions when he will have to improvise a bit in order to extend a play or buy more time to allow for his receivers to get out.

Trubisky has had his bumps and bruises along the way over the first two games of this season as he’s 28th in the league with 387 passing yards along with two touchdowns and an 80.0 passer rating. Granted, he is still getting acclimated to the new offense under head coach Matt Nagy, there is much hope that this could be the right system for him to find success on the field.

If he can continue to show growth along with proving to be efficient in his throws on the move, it could prove to be a major part in helping him take the next step in his development into becoming a legitimate franchise quarterback in Chicago.
