Chicago Bears Twitter went up in flames yesterday as the team agreed to a one-year deal with quarterback Andy Dalton. All offseason, Bears fans have been teased with the rumors and the ideas of the Bears acquiring either Deshaun Watson or Russell Wilson. And now they have Andy Dalton.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network set the scene of how trade talks between the Bears and the Seattle Seahawks went down as Chicago tried to pull Wilson away from Seattle.
When did the #Seahawks firmly decide they weren’t trading Russell Wilson? Yesterday. It was up in the air until then. Only then did Dalton get signed. https://t.co/kNUtMGdnV2

Maybe all secret trade meetings should be held in Fargo, North Dakota going forward. It's a fairly obscure location, and if by chance residents of Fargo recognize general managers from other teams, they probably wouldn't bat an eye on going crazy with the news on social media. Fargo comes across as a nice, easy-going place where your secrets are their secrets.
As Rapoport notes, the Bears appeared to offer a plethora of draft picks for Wilson, with head coach Pete Carroll and the rest of the brain trust in Seattle opting in the end to not trade Wilson to Chicago.
From the sounds of it, the door isn't completely close on a trade being worked out to send Wilson away although the Bears were one of the few teams on Wilson's “list.”
For Chicago, yikes. Going from Mitchell Trubisky to potentially Wilson or Watson only to end up with Dalton; that's what nightmare fuel is made of.
In an upcoming season where general manager Ryan Pace and head coach Matt Nagy appear to be getting one last chance to keep their jobs, this is not an ideal start for Chicago.
