The Chicago Bears suffered a 26-23 defeat at the hands of the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, but aside from a tightly-contested spectacle that required an overtime period to decide a winner, this matchup will also be remembered for an untoward incident. Bears wide receiver Javon Wims got himself ejected for throwing a couple of punches towards Saints safety CJ Gardner-Johnson. But as it turns out, the latter might have instigated some bad blood earlier in the game.
In the video below, Gardner-Johnson is clearly seen yanking Wims' mouthpiece moments before the fight broke out:

The clip of the actual fight â or at least the part where Wims throws a few punches â made it look like Gardner-Johnson was the victim. Wims was the one who approached him, and Gardner-Johnson didn't even retaliate after being on the receiving end of the haymakers. As it turns out, however, it was actually Gardner-Johnson who instigated the fight in the first place.
On a side note, we just have to say that touching someone else's mouthpiece is not advisable given the current pandemic.
Gardner-Johnson did not seem to be fazed after receiving the punches, which is unsurprising considering how thick his helmet is. If anything, Wims may have even hurt his hand even more by punching the helmet. That wasn't a smart move on his part, and his ejection was completely warranted. It remains to be seen if the league will issue Javon Wims a suspension, which at this point, won't come as a complete shock.
