Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will make his first appearance at Soldier Field on Sunday and it's opening up a lot of what-if questions for Chicago Bears fans. The Bears traded up in the 2017 draft to select Mitchell Trubisky while Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson were still on the board.

What if the Bears wouldn't have traded up to select Trubisky and instead took Mahomes or Watson? Let's take a look at all parties involved.

Chicago Bears

Matt Nagy is from the Andy Reid coaching tree and he has proven since taking over the Bears that he is a bright offensive mind. The biggest issue for Nagy is Trubisky isn't playing well enough to perform his offense at a high level. On the season, Trubisky is completing 63.4 percent of his passes for 2,774 yards. 17 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.

Even though Nagy has talked about Trubisky with positivity to the media, it's pretty clear that he is frustrated with his quarterback.

“You guys are always catching us right after the game,” Nagy said Monday, via Jeff Dickerson of ESPN. “And so there's a lot of emotions that go through. Here we are losing a game like that and knowing we could've played better. So I don't know exactly what the question was that was asked, but I'm saying if you sensed a frustration, I think I know Mitch better than anybody in this building except maybe [quarterbacks coach] Dave Ragone.”

The Bears would probably rather have Mahomes right now, but either Mahomes or Watson would be a clear upgrade. Nagy wants to run an offense similar to the one that Reid is running in Kansas City. The Bears might not have as many receiving threats, but if Mahomes was in Chicago, Nagy's offense would look quite impressive.

The Bears also have one of the best defenses in football. The Bears are giving up only 18.1 points per game this season. Any team that has that good of defense can make the playoffs with even an average quarterback leading the offense.

If Mahomes or Watson were running the show in Chicago, the offense would be above average at the absolute very least and there would be talks about the Bears being one of the best teams in the NFC. Instead of being one of the best teams in football, the Bears aren't even in the playoff race with two games left to go in the season.
