Wide receiver AJ Green has yet to make his 2019 debut as he recovers from an ankle injury. It won't happen in Week 8, nor will it happen during Week 9, as the Cincinnati Bengals are on a bye. According to Omar Ruiz of NFL Network, it should happen in Week 10, when Cincy hosts the Baltimore Ravens.
Per Ruiz, Green is aiming for his return date to be Week 10. He sounded confident that he will be able to do so according to Ruiz. “He just has to make sure his ankle can do everything he wants & make sure the injury won’t linger,” as the report entailed.
Green, a seven-time Pro Bowler, has missed 24 games since 2016 with different injuries. The team would like to play his injury with caution for the 2019 season, which has sparked a continuously delayed return.
“We want to take it day-by-day with him. I don’t want to put a timeline on it. It’s just however he feels, it’ll be good,” Bengals coach Zac Taylor said on Wednesday, via Tyler Dragan of The Enquirer. “When we get him back, we get him back and we’ll be excited about it. His approach has been the right way.”
With the Bengals being possessors of a 0-7 record and Green on the final year of his contract, there has been much speculation that the star wideout will get traded. However, he shot that down last week, after a report that said he will not play until after the Oct. 29 NFL trade deadline. He is not going to milk his injury in a pseudo “holdout.”
